4 Things That Can Go Wrong With Your AC

Most of the time, an air conditioner works without fail, day in and day out, cooling your home and keeping you comfortable. With good maintenance, you may be able to prolong just how well it works like this, extending your AC’s lifespan and your comfort during that time.

Yet, there are times when things could go wrong. When they do, you need to know when to call for air conditioning repair in Jackson, MS. Here’s how you can determine it is time to call in the experts.

Call an Expert for Help with Your AC If…

There are some situations in which you shouldn’t put off calling in a professional for AC repair. Doing so could help to ensure your air conditioner gets fixed faster, and in some cases, it may minimize the risk of complications occurring over time. Here are some times when you cannot put off repairs.

1. Your system is short cycling

You may notice your system short cycling if you hear it turn on, run for a minute or so, and then turn off. This should not happen. But instead, the system should run on relatively consistent and even cycles to keep the home cool. When this happens, it could mean there’s a problem with:

  • The thermostat
  • The ventilation system
  • The system air filter
  • The AC’s size

2. Your AC is producing weak airflow

Place your hand over the vent where cool air should come out. Does it seem like there’s limited air flow coming into the room? Poor cooling is not an uncommon problem if the system has not been well maintained. It may be due to a problem with the blower fan or a clogged air filter. It’s important to get this looked at to minimize damage to the system over time.

3. You hear odd noises during the cooling process

Most of the time, you really should not hear your air conditioner operating loudly. It should hum in the background and not be a distraction. However, if you start hearing strange sounds from your AC, that’s an indication that there’s a bigger problem present. If you hear the following, call an AC tech:

  • Banging
  • Screeching
  • Hissing
  • Rattling
  • Louder than normal operation

The problems can range in their causes from electrical concerns or blower fans not working right to a clogged condensate drain. Whatever the core cause though a professional should find and address it quickly.

4. There is little to no cooling

If your AC is operating, but the home is hot, or the humidity in your space is on the way up, that can indicate a larger problem. In some situations, it may indicate a refrigerant leak, while in others, the problem may be related to a thermostat malfunctioning. In both situations, you’ll want a certified technician to provide repairs to ensure that the problem does not worsen into a more expensive repair.

The sooner you call for help, the better. Make sure to reach out to a team of professionals to get your air conditioner running right again.
